JUVENILE FORESTERS’ HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The Committee and all concerned with the Juvenile Foresters’ Horticultural Society may be congratulated on the success of their January show, which was opened yesterday afternoon in the Foresters’ Hall, Oxford Terrace. As usual the centre table is filled with pot plants sent for exhibition only by Messrs W. Norman, H. Crooks, and Gray, gentlemen to whom these shows are ever greatly indebted for their completeness. Besides the gentlemen named, Messrs F. C. East, C. Hides, C. Brookes, L. Perry, Wade, Rogers, S. Jackson, raid Guntrip and Line have sent exhibits not. for competition. Specially noteworthy among these are some beautiful gloxineas and coleus, and an orchid from Mr Gray, a magnificent staghorn fern from Mr East, some symmetrical cucumbers from Mr Perry, some gigantic apples from Mr Wade, some appetising “Thimbleberries” from Mr Rogers, some very fine onions and dahlias from Mr Jackson, single dahlias and phlox Drummondi from Mr Rides, remarkably large and well formed dahlias from Mr Norman, and a crinum lily from Messrs Guntrip and Line. Miss Searell also sends some very perfect blooms of phlox Drummondi. The exhibits sent in for competition are many of them very good indeed, and specially praiseworthy are those sent in by children under 16 years of age. Without specifying any of these for their exceptional excellence, the prize list will sufficiently indicate the opinion of the judges, Messrs Norman, Guntrip, Cullen and Brookes. As usual the Hon Secretary, Mr T. Ashman was as busy as a bee, and as courteous as possible to all comers. It should not be omitted from this notice that a new feature has been introduced into the show this time, viz, an art union, the prizes for which, a goodly array, will be found displayed on the stage.
