OLE SCHOOLS.
PRF&EI DISTRIBUTIONS. CABLE TON. The annual treat to the children attending the Carleton, School was held on Dee. 23, at the school. During the afternoon a large basket of toys was distributed, each child receiving a present. An excellent tea was provided by the Committee for the children and their parents, and in the evening an entertainment was given by the children, under the direction of Miss Dohrmarsiß, Mr Englebiecht kindly taking the chair, in the unavoidable absence of Mr H. Little, the Chairman of the Committee. Songs, glees, and recitations were all given in a very pleasing manner. At the close of the concert a presentation was made to Miss Dohrmann of a very elegant tea and coffee service, as a mark of esteem from the parents of the children attending the school. Miss Dohrmann has resigned the position of mistress in the school, which she has held for over six years. The presentation was made by the Rev. H. Williams. GEBBIE’S VALLEY. The annual treat and distribution of prizes to the scholars attending the above school was held on Thursday, Dec. 23. The day being, in every way, suitable for the occasion, the parents, children, and visitors assembled in full force, all bent on making a jovial gathering. Shortly after one o’clock the Chairman, assisted by the
master and several members of the Corns' mitteey started the children to run races, &0., wbrsh were heartily enj >yed by the scholars, money piizeff and Knives being 1 awarded to the successful competitors. Eventuality handicapping; every childreceived a reward. At tne conclusion of the 1 sports, tea, cake, buns, tarts, &c., were handed to the children and 1 all present, ample justice- being done tb the good things provided for them. The scholars and parents then assembled izPthe schoolroom, and after a few suitable remarks by the Chairman, Mr John Geblie,-the prizes were awarded in the following ordbr ; Standard YL—Mary Greig, 1; Charles Dunford, 2.

Special prizes : Attendance Emma Wheeler, Eliza Wheeler, Agnes Stewart, and Arthur Stewart (all equall fall time). Sewing prizes awarded by the Chairman : Class I.—Emma Wheeler, Class 11. Ellen Gebbie, 1 ; Frances Manson, 2. Class lll.—Elvina Le Campion, 2 ; Elizabeth Braving, 2 ; Jane Gebbie,- 3 Class IV.—Lucy Harkess, 1. Class V.—Dora Gebbie, 1; Maud Stewart, 2. Class Vl. Ethel Stewart and Isabella Dunford l , equal. A reading prize, presented by a- friend, called forth several competitors. The prize was eventually carried off byyCharles Dunford. A Christmas-tree having, been provided, its promiscuous fruit found owners by lottery tickets, each child receivving a present. Three cheers for all' concerned brought a very pleasant day’s outing ton close. The Chairman use of the schoolroom to the young folks for a dance in the evening, and dancing was kept up with great glee till early morning. ST SAVIOUR’S SUNDAY SCHOOLI The annual distribution of prizes in cocanection with the St Saviour’s Sunday School took place on Sunday afternoon-' last. The prizes have been awarded according to the results of the recent examination, and with class marks added. 1 The Rev T. A. Hamilton presided, and expressed his gratification at the good work that had been done in the school. Mr Gaze distributed the prizes. Standard VI.
