Lyttelton Timet O files, Wednesday Evening. LIVE STOCK MARKET. At tiia Addington Yards to-day sheep and cattle were sent for ward in large numbers, and the attendance of buyers was fairly representative. Cattdr.— An average supply of fat cattle was yarded. Competition was not at all brisk, and prices showed a downward tendency, though little alteration can be reported on late quotations. Host of the cattle yarded were only of medium weight, and the quality was, with few exceptions, bat second-rate. A consignment from the North Island again came to hand, bnt consisted of heifers only. Good cattle sold at from £7 to £9 2a 6d. We repeat our last week’s quotation of from SOs to 24s per 1001 b. Trade was not brisk as at the past two sales, as owing to the backward state of feed, it is rather early for much business to be done in this department. There can, however, be no doubt that in a short time, should the weather prove favourable, store cattle will sell readily, and at satisfactory prices. Good three-year-old steers sold at from £4 10s to £5 10s; heifers up to £4 Sa; two-year-olds from £2 10s to £3 ; and yearlings from ICs to SOs. Shbep.—A fairly large supply of fat sheep was penned. The quality, ou the whole, was pretty good; in foot, hotter than the average markets for some time post. The temporary closing of the freezing works having shut out export buyers from the market the entry was left wholly to the local trade, who at the commencement of the sale were somewhat apathetic in their biddings, and values showed a decided drop on those of lost week. As the auction progressed, however, competition became more general, and a noticeable improvement took place, valnes rising to the extent of Is per head ; but even at the beat part of the sale lost week’s rates were not reached. The best cross-bred wethers sold at from 16s to 18s ; second quality at from 13s to 15s. Good ewes from 13s 6d to 17s ; inferior ditto from 9s 3d upwards; merinos brought from 10s 6d to 14s. No shorn sheep were on offer. We quote good mutton at 2Jd per lb, though in several instances the price realised was equal to 3d per lb. An increased entry of fat lambs was penned, aad although the demand was not very good, most lots were sold at prices rather lower than at last week’s sale. Valnes ranged from 5s to 10s. Thera was again a numerous entry of store sheep, but only the best lines of young sheep met with anything like an enquiry, other sorts being extremely difficult to quit. The most noticeable sales were hoggets at 10s, and 4-tooth cross-bred wethers at Us Gd.

Pios.—The number on oiler was not large, and consisted chiefly of porkers and small stores. The demand was very dull, and a reduction on late rates has to be reported. CUSTOMS REVENUE. The following Customs revenue was collected yesterday Spirits, £BO Is Id ; wine, £2B IDs lid; l>eer, £l6 13s; tobacco, £B6 2s; tea, £lO2 16s 3d ; other duties. £62 18s 8d s goods by weight, £33 17s 14 ; ad valorem, £341 Is 7d; total, £757 10d.
