MUNICIPAL.
WOOLSTON TOWN'BOARD. ; An ordinary meeting of the Board was held on July 29; present—Messrs M'Diarmid, Hopkins, O'Neill, Freeman, Bowron, Coles, and T. York (Chairman). The following correspondence was read:—From the Selwyn County Council, re insurance on bridgekeeper's house, and suggesting that the house should be insured in the joint names of the Heathcote and Woolston Boards. Resolved—" Tha t■■ the house be insured for £75, and that tenders be called for repairs, &c, to same." From Tramway Company, re river encroaching on Ferry road. Resolved—" That the Lyttelton Harbour Board be written to asking them to attend to same." From Heathcote Road Board, re cowa treading in sidechannels, Hargood street. The Chairman informed the meeting that he had answered the letter. From Christchurch Drainage Board, enclosing special order to make rate for year ending Dec. 31, 1886. From the Selwyn County Council, informing the Board that a sum of .£34 2s 4d was lying to the credit of the Board for maintenance of bridges. Resolved—- " That application be made for same." From Charitable Aid Board, enclosing copy of resolutions of further proposed amendments to " The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1885." Resolved—" That the Board agree with the resolutions, and are willing to co-operate in the matter." Resolved—" That the Clerk write to the Heathcote Road Board and inform them that the bridge-keeper's house has been insured, and that the Board intend having repairs done to same; and also that a lamp has been erected at the swing bridge, and that the Board will be responsible for half the amounts," &c. After passing accounts amounting to £IOB 15a 7d, the meeting ended. SUMNER TOWN BOARD. An ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Friday last. Circular letters were received:—(l) From the Registrar-General (2) and from the Charitable Aid Board. Be the former, the Clerk was instructed to furnish the required information, and with reference to the latter the Board decided to give the matter its hearty co-operation. Mr Mouldey reported the result of the deputation's interview with the Heathcote Road Board. Commissioner Graham stated that the Clerk and a member of the Road Board had been over the road with him, I and there was every prospect of a satisfactory arrangement being made. Be concrete culvert on White's creek. The specification for this work was submitted and approved, and it was decided to hold a special meeting of the Board at Commissioner Hay ward's house on Monday, August 9, to consider the tenders. The Clerk reported that the by-law for licensing vehicles, &0., had come into force on Tuesday last. It was decided to appoint an Inspector of Carriages under this by-law at the special meeting to be held on August 9. Commissioner Mouldey brought under the Board's notice the state of the esplanade in front of his and adjoining sections, and stated that if the Board would cart him the necessary material he would have it spread. It was decided to defer action herein till after the culvert had been constructed. After reading the Treasurer's statement, showing a balance of £36 3s oh.the general account, £26 3s on the creek improvement account, and doing other routine business, the meeting adjourned.
