Lord Salisbury, at a meeting of the Tory Party, last night; advocated the emigration of a million Irish to Manitoba. He expressed his conviction that a dissolution was imminent. The Liberal dissentients decline to vote for Home Rule, even as an abstract principle. The minimum majority against the measure is expected to be 41, and possibly it may amount to 100. Mr Chamberlain and the Marquis of Hartington have been reconciled. French influence is being brought to bear to induce the Spanish Cortes not to ratify the wine treaty with England. The trial of Alderman Jachne, a New York jeweller, charged with bribery in taking 20,000 dollars for votes of the Broadway Railway franchise, has been concluded. Jachne was found guilty. Sentence was deferred. Three hundred and fifty thousand Russian troops are being massed in the Crimea and Bessarabia. Destructive cyclones, doing an immense amount of damage, have been experienced in America, Italy, Germany and Austria. The Eev Davenport Kelly is men-
