GEO. LESLIE LEE, Beturning-Offlcer. ""-'-" ""•*- •—" 1886. 9698 ITO THE ELECTOBS OF SYDENHAM. ENTLEMEN.-I had the honour, a few days ," ago, of announcing myself as a Candidate for your suffrages as your Parliamentary Representative. My reason for bo late an entranoe into your Political Arena I fully explained. I was then given to understand by Mr Scott himself that it was his intention to retire from the forthcoming Contest. It seems, however, that Mr Scott's advisers have Erevailed upon him to Contest the Election at all azards, and as Mr Scott and myself, from a common platform, and advocate similar views and reforms, I have, in deference to his priority of oloim, determined on this occasion, as far as I am concerned, to give him a Clear Platform, and to BETIBE from the Candidature of your Borough. In making this announcement, I wish it to be clearly understood that I do not retire from this election because of any inherent merit which any of the Candidates may possess over me, but from the conviction that the cause, which it was my intention Btroagly to support, viz., the Policy, enunciated by the Present Government, must inevitably suffer if the followers of that policy be Deprived of a Representative by a Splitting of Votes. I am. Gentlemen, Yours very obediently, 12S JOHN JOYCE. TO THE ELECTOBS OF SYDENHAM. ENTLEMEN,—In order to prevent possible ' misapprehension on the part of any of my supportere, 1 beg to announce that I have not w^^trmmmwmi support at the forthcoming. I intend to address you at Addington and Waltham at an early date. Respectfully yours, JOHN £ SCOTT.
