SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
FLAXTON. The Committee held thf ir usual monthly meeting on Tuesday last; present—Mr B. M; Wright (Chairman), and Messrs • French, Lancaster, and the Eev T. E. Inwood. The Chairman reported having presented Miss Dawson with an album on, behalf of the Committee, and that he had made arrangements with Mrs Bovull about cleaning the schools. The teacher's report was read and adopted. It showed a serious falling off in the number on the . roll and attendance. This he attributed to children leaving at the commencement . of the New Year, to harvest work, and to sickness. Numbers on roll at main school, 129; average for quarter, 99" 19; at the side school, 29; average for quarter, 21'1. The teacher forwarded a list of 38 children who had not; complied with the amended Education Act by attending at least 30 . days during the last quarter. The Committee decided to postpone action till after the election on fourth Monday. Accounts amounting to .£7 9s 6d were passed for payment.
