«3ent of the Auckland Institute for the forthcoming year. _ At a meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board a letter was read from the Believing Officer calling attention to the reckless manner in which children were committed to the Industrial Schools. Sixteen had been eommitted in one week. It was resolved to call the attention of the Minister for Education to the matter, requesting action to be taken to stop the ■flie indiscriminate committal of children to Homes. The Auckland Bootmakers’ Union are taking steps to determine the number of apprentices to journeymen. WANGANUI, Feb. 23. The body of the boy Nish, who was drowned on Thursday, was recovered today. The. Education Board have passed a resolution asking Government to advance .£IOOO towards next year’s building grant to enable them to meet the demand for new schools in the outlying districts. WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. The Hons Messrs BaHance and Stout are-' expected to arrive here to-morrow, and Mr Eichardson on Friday. The Temperance party in Wellington have decided to appoint a deputation to wait on the Government, with the object of getting the provisions of the Licensing Act more rigidly observed in this city than as said to be the case at present. The Temperance Conference commences on Monday. Amongst the delegates present will be Sir William Fox and Mr T. W. Glover (Wellington), Messrs A. Speight, E. Neal, Cox, and Carr (Auckland), Lock (Nelson), Sasthope (Wairarapa), J. E. Jago, D. C. Cameron and E. Fulton (Dunedin), J. Harding and E. C. Harding (Napier), C. S. M'Dowell (Greymouth), and J. T. Smith (Christchurch). At the annual meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, Mr E. Pearce was elected Chairman. DUNEDIN. Feb. 23. A girl 11 years of age was brought up to-day charged with stealing a number of articles from shops. She had been sent on a message from the country by her mother, but she came on to town, and going round the streets took an umbrella, two books, and a bag from different shops. She was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. ___
