SCHOOL COMMITTEES .

METHVEN. ' The usual monthly meeting of this Committee was held on Tuesday evening; present—Messrs G. Shann (Chairman), D. Quinn, J. Hibbs, J. C. M‘William, and N. Duff. Mr E. Butt sent an apology for his absence, owing to urgent private business. The master’s monthly report was read; showing that the average attendance during the last month was:—Boys, 3P5; and girls, .31:3 j highest attendance, 69. Mr Edge’s, Inspector of Schools’/report on his recent examination of the school, was read, showing that a percentage of 89, presented in all the standards, passed, several of them in a very creditable manner, and the tables attached to the report showed that most of the failures were owing to irregular attendance. The Committee considered that the report . was very satisfactory, and reflected great credit on Mr Seay, the teacher, and bis assistant. Miss Connel, for the great progress the scholars have made during the time they have been in charge of the school. It was resolved to call the attention of parents to the necessity of sending children to school regularly and assist the teachers in the discharge of their onerous duties, as well as to promote the’education of the rising generation. The custodian of the school paid in several rents he received for the use of the schoolroom. The. Chairman undertook to procure fuel and other articles for the use of the school, after which the usual routine business was disposed of and the Committee adjourned until next month.
