Dbunkenness.—George Craw was convicted of this offence, and a fine of £5 imposed on him; his Worship added a caution, that any re-appearance of the prisoner under this charge would be followed by three months' imprisonment, without the option of a fine.—Johanna Gallagher was fined J 53 or seven days' hard labour.—David Hickey and Albert Mazengarb were accused of being drunk and disorderly,on the Ferry road, and with using obscene language within of a tram car full of passengers. It appeared that the accused, who were both young men, had endangered their lives by endeavouring to get on a tram car in motion. They would not desist, and made use of filthy language when asked to do so. Mr Lynch, solicitor of Timaru, spoke to the Court on behalf of Hickey, who had been employed by him as groom; he , explained that the young man had suffered from a severe cut, which caused him to lose a deal of blood, and left him in a weak state. Mr Lynch had no doubt that,Hickey had taken a glass or two, in the hopes it would act as a stimulant, and had lost his head in consequence. His Worship fined each prisoner 5s for drunkenness, and ordered them to be imprisoned till the rising of the Court for using obscenelanguage.—CharlesEvans, alias " Piccolo Charley," was fined or seven days' imprisonment.—Two men, not before convicted, were fined 5s each. _ Civil Cases.—Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in the case of Chi'snall and Stewart v. Hubbard, claim JB6 6s ; Atkinson v. Prebble, claim £5 15s; Muff v; Hughes, claim .£3 4s ; Griffin v. Rhodes, claim 16s ; Raphael v. Goodger, claim, £6 5s ; Meng v. Murphy, claim £\ . lis j Drainage Board v. Torrens, claim £2 14s. —A rehearing was granted in the case of Clifford v. Shaw, and fixed for June 2 next.
