ACCIDENTS.

An accident of a somewhat serious nature happened on Wednesday last at Sumner to Mr Van Asch, Director of the Deaf and Dumb Institution. He was driving over some rough ground behind the main street when by some means the vehicle capsized, Mr Van Asch falling under the horse. Fortunately the accident was witnessed by members of his household, and assistance was at once obtained. Dr Prihs was telegraphed for, and arrived as speedily as possible. The injuries, as far as they can be ascertained at present, consist of a broken x’ib and collar bone. Mr Van Asch, so far, is progressing favourably. About half-past 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon a little girl, seven years of age, while walking along Hereford street, was knocked down by a pony carriage containing some ladies. The child was struck by the horse’s chest and knocked clear of the wheels, so that she escaped with a severe fright and a shaking.
