LICENSING COMMITTEES.
SOUTH RAKAIA. The first meeting of the new Committee was held on Thursday present—Messrs Allan, Chamberlain, and Coster. Mr Lyttelton was elected Chairman for the year. The Inspector reported most favourably on all the houses in the district. Mr John Holmes appeared on behalf of Mr Compton, and asked for a transfer of the license from the Railway Hotel, South Rakaia (which was destroyed some months ago), to another house to be built on a more suitable site in the township. As the due notice had not been given, the application was postponed for a month. Mr. Holmes asked the opinion of the Committee as to the suitableness of the proposed site as shown by the plan. The Committee stated that at present there were no objections, and it was of opinion that the new site was far more convenient for the public than the old one. It would be better for plans to be submitted to the Committee for approval in a month. This concluded the business, and the meeting adjourned.
