MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The brethren of the Robert Burns Lodge - No. 604, celebrated their anniversary by a very pleasant social gathering in the Canterbury Ma-onic Hall on Tuesday evening. Some" 200 guests, including anumberOf rladies, were present, and Bro B. Buchanan, R.W.M., presided. A well-arranged musical programme was gone through very_ successfully ~and after the close of &e concert dancing was kept up till a late hour to the music of Mr Fleming's quadrille band. The usual meeting of the Sfc Albans and Stanmore Political Association was on Tuesday evening in St Matthew's schoolroom, when there was a good attendance of members. A letter was received from the St Albans Borough Council, addressed to the Secretary of the Association, dated Feb. 18, as follows: —" Sib, —I have the honour, by direction of the Council, to acknowledge receipt of yours of Jan. 15, and am instructed to inform you in reply that the matter will not be lost sight of. —I am, &c, W. F. Bbatson, Town Clerk." Members expressed the hope" that the Council would fully consider its position with regard to the several duties of the officers of the Council before entering on another financial year. It was proposed by Mr Kowley, seconded by Mr Bailey, and carried unanimously—" That Mr Penteney be requested to allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for the vacant seat in the St Albans Borwgh Council." Mr Penteney consenting, a Committee was formed to secure his return. Municipal matters having occupied a considerable time, it was resolved that the subject of " Federation be postponed until the next meeting. Some routine business was then disposed of, and the meeting adjourned until March xO.
