MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
More than ordinary interest should be taken in the monthly meeting of St Paul's Temperance Society, proposed to be held in that church this evening, as may be Been in the advertisement, various delegates to the Presbyterian General Assembly are to deliver addresses, the Moderated acting as Chairman. The Committee are looking forward to a large audience being present. The monthly meeting of the St Matthew's (St Albans) Band of Hope was held on Monday evening in the schoolroom. The EevW. J. Stack took the chair, and about 230 juveniles and adults were present. The Rev H. C. M. Watson gave a very amusing and instructive address, in which he said there were 120 members of Parliament total abstainers ; also that the late General Gordon, whom we had heard so much'about of late, was a total abstainer. The address was attentively listened to, and appreciated by all present. The address was followed by duets, songs, and recitations, rendered by members of the branch, one recitation being given by Miss'Mary Butterfield, who was under six years of age. A new feature of the meeting was a choir of 20 members, nine girls and eleven boys, chosen out of the members of the branch (and under Mr Hall's management, who has kindly consented to act as choir master), who joined in the choruses, &c. The proceedings terminated by singing the National Anthem.
