The Canadian Government loan of five millions sterling,, bearing interest at the rate of 3-1 per cent per annum, has been successfully floated here. The total tenders amounted to £5,600,000. Tenders at 91 will receive 60 per cent of the allotment, and those above that price will receive in full. Arrived, at Plymouth—Steamship Rome, from Melbourne (May 6). The market for hides is quiet. Accounts to hand from the English hop districts are generally less favourable, more rain being required. The wool market is quiet. Arrivals of new wools for the August-Septem-ber series of auctions now araoimt to 200,000 bales. The Homeward mails, per Orient

steamship Liguria, dated Melbourne, May 16, were delivered to-day. The New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, have received the following cable message:— LONDON, J une 19. The s.h. lonic left Plymouth to-day for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton.
