LINWOOD TOWN BOARD.
An ordinary meeting of the above Board was held on Monday evening last at 7 o’clock; present—Messrs Clephane (in the chair). Hale, Collier, E. Toomer, and H. Toomer. Mr H. Toomer apologised for the absence of Mr Goodman, Mr F. W. Staples applied for an extension of the time allowed him in which to pay his rates. Resolved—“ That 14 days be allowed Mr Staples for payment of rates.” The following correspondence was dealt with: — From C. Revans, re assessment. The Clerk to reply. From W. H. Reid, stating that in his opinion Mrs Harper’s rates should be remitted. Resolved—“ That Mrs Harper be allowed 14 days in which to pay her rates.” Prom W. Smith, stating that he has been summoned and adjudged liable for rates on property of which he was not the owner. Resolved—“ That the Board sympathise with Mr Smith, hut must hold him responsible for the amount.” Prom H. Taylor, offering to continue carting for the Board for twelve months on the same terms as the expired contract. Resolved—“ That tenders for carting he invited.” Resolved —“ That a special meeting he held at the conclusion of the next ordinary meeting re a proposed by-law for the suppression of disorderly houses and brothels,” The Works Committee reported that the contractor had commenced the delivery of metal, and recommended that some of the concrete side-channels should he repaired. The report was adopted. Resolved—“ That a rate of 10£d in the £ be made for the year 1884.” Resolved—“ That a special meeting be held on June 9 to strike the rate ; that the rate be payable in one sum on June 10; and that the rate book bo open for inspection during office hours from June 2to June 9.” Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting closed.
