The weather is very cold and wet. The first snow of the season has fallen in the Alpine district, where the weather is more severe than was ever experienced. The new lighthouses at Cape Nelson and Cliffy Island ar¥ ready for use. • A distinct shock of earthquake has been felt in Gippsland. SOUTH AUSTEALIA. Heavy floods have taken place in the North, and in some places people were taken from the roofs of houses.
