The return match between the first fifteen# of them Clubs came off on the College grouna yesterday afternoon, and #nded in anotory for the former by throe goal# and four trim to »*i. The ball being badly relumed the yellow w«w penned in their twenty-fire for nearly half the spell. By playing together, however, they stered off the danger, and gradually toward* the College goal. From two of them Fuller kicked goal*. The game wa* Lit from beginning to end—about the fattest w* hare eeen played thi* season. For East Chnetehurcb, Francis, who ha# been put up to half-back, showed excellent form, while of the forwards, Wilson, Chapmen, and Blanchard played hard, a?d were constantly on the ball.

They were instructed to select a trial fifteen at once, and to arrange two practice* per week on damner square at 430 p.m. The Union Clubs will be asked to proride men to form a side to oppose the fiftwci the idea beiog to (*et the team that will eventually meet Auckland together as early a« possible, and give them plenty of united practice. It was also decided to hare Union matches every Saturday, for which purpose the Club fixtures will hare to be postponed for the present. There should be no reason, if Auckland and Otago can do so, why suffident players should not be found to attend the week-day matches wd give the representatives what they certainly want, plenty of practice together. The first trial match wiil take place to-morrow on the Havens’ ground, and the learns will be found below, but owing to the short notice, and the unavoidable abeenoe of several player*, 'they are rather different to what might be expected. . j be only other business transacted by the Union was consideration of a point referred to them by the empire# in the match on Saturday between the Worth Canterbury and pw Christchurch Clubs. After long discussion, the following resolution was arrived at:—“That the ground of the appeal being a matter of fact, the Union cannot offer an opinion on the question at issue, bat with regard !o the construction of Kule 53 tho Union thinks that the ball could only be brought back for inch an irregularity of play as would affect the game."
