ACCIDENT TO A SCHOONER.

As the three-masted schooner Johann Adolph (whioh completed taking in a cargo of wool, tallow, and preserved meats yesterday on behalf of the New Zealand Shipping Company) was being taken out into the roadstead, preparatory to sailing for London, she took the ground on the boulder bank the eastern pier head, and stranded. She started out on the last of the flood tides, under tow of the B.s. Sir Donald ; but before she could be headed out into the tide-way me bilged slightly on the bank, just outside the cattle wharf. This, however, only necessitated a slight delay, during whioh time the tide had commenced to ebb, and carried the Sir Donald out ahead of her; so that when clear of the bank she was unable to get her enough out into the stream. The sohooner kept in shallow water along the pier, eventually lakhsg the ground inside the tail end of the Boulder bank, on the lee side of the eastern pier. Her head was almost opposite the lighthouse. The ebb-tide making held her fast. There was a considerable sea on the bar this morning, which caused the schooner to surge about a good deal. Lines were run out to the breastwork to steady her a« much as possible. Ihe b.b. Sir Donald went to her assistance again at about noon, when the tide commenced to make, and at 12.45 got her clear and towed her into the roadstead. Up to the time the reporter left the Spit, the extent of damage had not been ascertained ; but although the vessel was making little or no water, it is feared that her ooppor and planking would be considerably injured, as the bank on which she struck is composed of large boulders and shingle, some of the former being very ragged and sharp. It is thought probable that she will have to go to either Wellington or Lyttelton for an overhaul.
