Two other men competed, A good deal of fan was created by this race, which was very well contested.

OHBISI'S COLLHOS. These races were |eld on Thursday last, on the Avon, at the cutting near Kow Brighton, iriit year they were held on the Estuary, but it was this time considered unsafe to hold them there again on account of tho smaller bora, It was a beautiful day for swimming, a light nor’-wester blowing. The boys,wore conveyed to the place of action in four'busses and a drag. There was, alto, a good master of horsemen on the scene. The races were all well contested, especially the final heat of the 200yds (open to the whole school), the finish of which was vsry exciting, the race lying between a boarder and a day-boy, always a fruitful source of many hardly, contested struggles in the College athletics. Owing to the narrowness pi the stream, most c! the events had to be swum in heats. 'iho following are the results of the different faces r JiOOrM, Open to Whole School.—First heat: 0. S. Rhodes, IjF. J. Kami:ton, 2 5 0. Maude, 3. Bbodss and Maude led at the start, .Rhodes slightly ahead. When ICO yards had been covered, Rhodes was leading by about five or tin yards, Mande second, Hamilton third, gaining on Maudei and finally passing him about fiOyards from the winning post. Rhodes won by about ten Or twelve yards. Second heat: J. Cocks, 1 j F. 0. Kimball, 2. Won easily by Cocks by about ten yards. Third heat: ff. Harris, 1; M. 0. Robison, Sj 6. Harris, 3.‘ F. Cocks, 3, About 20 competed. The competitors dived off a punt moored in mid-stream. Harris, 2; J. Cocke, 3._ The first three in the other beats were left in the final If arris, who was the favourite, led slightly at the start, with Rhodes a few inches behind. This arder was maintained until close to the winning post, when Rhodes spurted, and won by a few inches. The finish, was a most exciting one, end the winner was loudly cheered fay the boys, especially the boardwr*. This was the best race of the day. 200T03 Hakucaiv—H. Kimbell (9*ce), 1; li. Ootterill (12*ee), 2 ; J. Cocks (12« c), 3. This was » very good race, bat the river was rather small to allow of & good start, on Recount of the number of boys who started (45). At this time large numbers of weeds were floating down the river, which spoilt the race,-.
