ANNUAL MEETINGS OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

SOUTH BAKAIA. On Monday the annual meeting of householders in tou district was held in the schoolroom. There was a good attendance, and the Bev Chambers took the chair. The late Chairman, Mr Hardy, read the report and balance-sheet, showing a few pounds in hand. He spoke most highly of too efficiency of the school, and stated that there was a considerable increase in the attendance. Mr Broadbent moved a vote of thanks to the retiring Committee, which was osrried. Nine candidates were nominated as members of the new Committee, and the following were declared elected Messrs Chambers, Hardy, Cox, Davies, Gaarder, Oxley, and Kemble A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. The new Committee then met, and elected Mr Hardy, Chairman. It was decided to hold the meetings on the first Monday in every month, end to obtain the use of the library for that purpose if possible.

80FIHBRIDGB. The annual general meeting of householders for tbe election of the Soutbbridge School Committee for tbe ensuing year was held on Monday evening. Mr S. G, Staveley occupied tbe chair, and read tbe annual report of the put year's work, also the balance-sheet. On the motion of Mr Howes, the report and balance sheet as read were adopted. The nomination of members was then proceeded with, bat only three householders consented to stand j and although tbo Chairman deprecated in strong terms the apathy displayed by householders m the matter of education, tbe meeting terminated without a Committee being elected. SOUTH MALVERN. The annual meeting of householders tosh place at the schoolroom on Monday. Mr N. Grindrod, Chairman of the retiring Committee, presided. The Chairman stated the school bad just been opened with more than forty children, and that £lO wae at the bank tor tbe new Committee. In answer to questions. tbe Chairman stated that it had been decided to adopt the following scale of charges for the use of the room : —For religious purposes, 2« fid i lectures, 6t i concerts and entertainments, 7s fid j dances, 10s. The election of tbe new Committee then began, and Messrs T. Conliffe, 8. Dawes, J, Ford, N. Grindrod, W. Leomin, E, M'Millan, and N. Milligan were elected. The Committee met afterward*, and Mr N. Grindrod was elected Chairman for the year. OXFORD. The annual meeting of householders of the Wert Oxford educational district was held In the schoolroom on Monday night. The attendance was very limited, Tbe retiring Chairman. Mr A. P. Prichard, occupied the chair, and real the fallowing report The Committee in presenting their usual annual report, have to congratulate the parents and teachers on the greatly improved results of the examination held In July last, as compared with tbe previous one o! Mar, 1881, the passes in July averaging over 35 per cent of those presented for examination, a result which roast be highly gratifying to all concerned, and reflects the highest credit on the roosfcr, Mr Oatbbert, and tbe teacher* under himi all of whom must have well seconded his end savour*, to bring tbe school to Its present state of efficiency. While making these remarks, the Committee would like to quote a paragraph from the Inspector's report: —‘ The results of the examination are highly satisfactory to me, and mutt be so both to the parents and teachers, the teaching is intelligent and thorough, what is known, is known well. Master, mistress, and pupil teachers, have done their work thoroughly and efficiently during the pest year.* Since the present Committee wore elected, a side school ha* been opened nosr Mr D. Slodden'e old will, and now numbers upwards of 25 scholars, who, under the able supervision of Miss Boston, aw progressing very’satisfactorily. Tbe residents In this neighbourhood have good reason to bo pond of the fine school and grounds provided by the Board for their use, and it is to be hoped they will tako a fair shore of the duties connected with the management of same, as for some time after ops® ins a new school there are many Sr mS. that want looking to. The eohool was examined by*the Inspector in September last, whose report on the general progress of tho school must be deemed very gratifying to Mr and Mr* Foster, by whose effort* and careful training such satisfactory results had bsen achieved. Tho following persona were elected the Committee for the ensuing year, namely s—Messrs Q. Bedford, A. M’Hae, J. Osborn, J. Brett, B, H. Hopkins, J, Bobertson, and T. H- Anson. At a meet* log of tho Committee immediately after, Mr T. fl. Anson was elected Chairman, and Mr G. Bedford Hon Treasurer. The school broke up for the holiday* on Jan. 18, when aU tho children were treated to a good tea by Ur and Mrs Foster, and in the evening Ur T. H. Anson distributed the prises to all those children who bed pissed their standards. The usual vote of tbanka haring been passed, the children wont home thoroughly weU satisfied. OUST. The annual meeting for the election of the School Committee took place on Monday evening at the main school. There wae a fair number of householder* present, and Mr J. D. Dickenson occupied the chair. The Secretary, Mr Hassall, road hi* report for the year, which wae unanimously adopted. The following were elected a Committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs Oromie, W. Atkinson, M’Kio, WOutchon, A. D. Hassell, Hankerville, and B. Kart. Mr A. D, Hasrall was elected Chairman, and Mr Oromie was appointed to sign cheques with him. It was decided that the meetings of the Committee be held on the second Monday of each month.

NORTH BOAD. The meeting of tbe householders of this district was hold in the schoolroom on Monday. On tho motion of Mr Longman, Mr D. Patchett was voted to the chair. Tbe outgoing Committee's annual report wae read, which showed that several substantial improvements had been effected, and there wae to be a class room added to the present building, which wae very much required. Johns, J. Cochrane, T. Wilson, 0. Englefiold, J. Davis, H. Tisoh. After a vote of thanks had been passed to the Chairman, tbe meeting dosed. ALfOBD FOBBST. The a«nn*l election of Committee did not take place on Monday, partly from the absence of the late Chairman, and from the fact that the date of election was either forgotten by many, or unknown. Another date will therefore be fixed, when it ia hoped more householders will attend, aod appoint a Committee to look after tho important interests of the rising generation; Perhaps the small attendances of householders may be better accounted for by the f .cl that many ore busy shearing and harvesting.
