MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The anniversary of the Loyal Fhilipstown Lodge, 1.0.0.P.,M.U., was celebrated last night by a dinner in the New‘ Hall, East Belt. The dinner was laid in the hall, Bro Collier having undertaken the catering. About 200 sat down, and a large proportion of the chairs were occupied. Prov Q.M. Bro C. Forster occupied the chair, and he was supported by P.P.Q.M.’s Bros Grantham, Parry, and Aherne, and Dr Stewart, medical officer to the Lodge. The vice-chair was occupied by D.F.G.M. Bro J. M'Oormiok, who was supported by the N.G. of the Lodge; Bro J.. Berry. The cloth wae cleared, and the usual loyal, and patriotic, toasts were duly honoured, it being specially noticeable that the toast of the Legislative Council and members of the House of Bepresentatives was drunk in silence, which was in contrast to all the other toasts of the evening.. The toast of the G.U. and Board of Directors was proposed by P.P.G.M. Grantham, and responded to by - P.P.G.M. Kent, who referred to the ability and energy which the present G.U. had. displayed in the conduct of the business of the Order. “The District Officers", was responded,to by the Chairman; and the toast' list alao contained the following:— “The jEindred Societies,” “The,Architect, Mr Cane,” “The Medical Officer, Dr Stewart,” and “The Fhilipstown Lodge.” During the evening some excellent songs were sung by various members present, pnd selections were played by Miss and Master Collier on the piano and violin j while Mr Greer's ventriloquial stance provoked great merriment. A very pleasant evening was spent, and the party broke up at midniuit. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Perseverance Lodge 1.0.0. F., M.U., Woolston, was held on Wednesday. There was a good attendance of members and visiting brothers. After transaction of sick and other business, the notice of motion to rescind resolution of a previous meeting to the effect—” That the enlargement of the hall be deferred until the Lodge valuation ie completed,” was discussed, in which the greater port of the members present took part, the result being the adoption of an amendment by 26 to 7—“ That the matter under discussion be postponed for twelve months.” A circular was read from tbe Foresters re pi opoaed f6te on Boxing Day. The lodge agreed to take part in same, and Bros F. A, Bromley, H. Bennetts, G. Oookiley, W. Aylward and H. Soott were appointed to aot as delegates from this Lodge. Bro F. A. Bromley, P.N.G., was elected to the office of G.M. for remainder of the term. F.G. Collier made an application for the use of the Lodge banner on behalf of the. Loyal Philipstown Lodge, This was unanimously agreed to. The receipts for the evening amounted to about £9l. The Lodge then oloied in due form. .
The ordinary meeting of Court Star of Canterbury A 0.F., was held last. Monday evening in the Foresters* Hall. Beside* the usual routine business, the FMe Committee delegales were elected. On Tuesday erening a special meeting took place to consider, the advisability of joining the proposed Friendly Societ as’ dispensary. The Managing Com* mittee gave in their report to the effect that they were satisfied' that first-olais medical attendance was procurable in Ohrietohuroix'in connection with the dispensary, and at a favourable price, - Alter a long and somewhat animated discussion, it was decided that this Court should have nothing to do with the .proposed dispensary.—Oourt Thistle of Forest, Wo. 6494, Sydenham, held its meeting in St Saviour’s schoolroom on Tuesday evening. .. There was a good attendance of members. After (he usual business of the. Court, and the delegates had been appointed for the File Committee, the Court adjourned for harmony, when some good songs were rendered by the brethren present. , The discussion re dispensary and purchasing ofland was adjourned tul next Court night. One new member wae initiated, and two others proposed. ’The Court was then closed in due form by the 0. 8., Bro WHaig.
