[Reuter’s Telegrams,] LONDON, March 22. The wool market is firm and is expected to continue so. March 23. In the House of Lords to-day, Yiscount Cranbrook, Secretary of State for India, made a statement regarding the present position of affaire in Afghanistan. His Lordship said that General Stewart, with a force under his command, was returning to India via Ohnznee, where a large body of the enemy is collected. It is at present uncertain whether an attack would be made by General Stewart in view of the recent offer of • submission by the chiefs. : March 5 24. The Times, in a leading article, expects that an equal balance of parties is likely to take place next Parliament. •CONSTANTINOPLE, March 22. Col. Lynge and his wife, who were captured last month by Greek brigands, have now been released. News has been received from Mecca to the effect that a religious fanatic has stabbed to death the Grand Sheriff of the City.
ST. PETERSBURG-, Maech. 24. On the occasion o£ the Czar’s birthday the Emperor of Germany made a speech, in which he hoped that the present satisfactory relations between Germany and Russia might be maintained.
