NORTHERN AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A general meeting of members of the Oenenl Committee wae held on Thursday, at theßoadßoard office, Bangiora; present— Messrs J. M‘Farlane (President), Bose (hon. Sec,), Luxton, Lee, Boys, 1 Fulton, Scott, Young, Williams, Sansom, Muloock, Smart, Dick, Skerington, Jones, Merton, Buech, Pearson, Garland, M'Qregor, Walker, Duncan and Hanna. : ’ The Secretary read the letters from judges who had accepted their duties. One gentle* man replied to his invitation that having to opine a long distance he expected his expenses paid, . r', , After some discussion, it was decided that the fundi of the Society would not admit of paying the judges, and it would be unfair to pay only pne out pf the number.
A letter wa§ read from Mr B. Coop, Hon Secretary Kaiapoi Farmers’ Club, drawing attention to the sparrow nuisance, in towns, and saying that this Club wished to see lihple* meats tested befon prizes were awarded.
Mr Buss laid the Association would offer prizes for the sparrow’ eggs collected. The catalogueswere put, and it would be difficult tp make farther conditions relative to the exhibition of implements.
. .The Chairman's opinion was that the implements were sent for exhibition, not competition, and the Northern. Society moat be content to leave the testing to the parent Society at Christchurch. It was ultimately decided—“ That the implements be judged in the usual way.”
A letter was read from Mr B. H. Banks, declining to act as a judge of' poultry, as he still retained a lively recollection of the liberality towards the judges it last show. Mr Bass stated that lie had replied, asking Mr Banks for an explanation, pointing out that the Committee were last year at the mercy of a miserable Christchurch caterer, and the Committee apologised in every way to its judges and the public. ; An offer .was, made by the Bangiora Brass Band to perform on the show ground for £9.
A member hoped the band would give a better performance than those of which the Association had had experience, in paying about 20s per tune. The Hon Secretary reported that the receipts to date were £156 Os sd, and the members’ subscriptions did not come in so readily as was anticipated, but he hoped members would take the hint.
Special prizes were offered by Mr J. Torrens, £5 for foals by Governor ; and Mr J. 0. Boys, £3 3s, to be applied at the discretion of ihis Association. The Class Stewards appointed were—For Merino sheep, Mr 0. O. King; Leicesters, Jf. Bosh, B. Kay; Lincolns, W. Pearson, A. M'Donald ; Romney Marsh, A. Garland, S. Coleman; cross-breds, J.Bowie, W. M. Boas; fat sheep, T. B. Howeon, J. Wheeler; cattle, W. Sansom, M. M'Farlane; fat cattle, M. Duncan, - Greenwood; blood horses, J. Luxton, G. H. Lee, J. Fulton; draught horses, W. M'Qregor, W. Smart, E. Mulcock; leaping, H. Scott, G. H. Lee; pigs, C. Skerington; dairy produce, 0. Young, J. M'lntyre; implements, J. Gould, J. Stevenson, J. Trail; manufacturers, B. Hanna, J. Dick ; dogs, J. Hnwe. Ground Committee, Duncan, Walker, Cone, King, Jones, Pearson, Smart,and Kayl' It was decided,: on the motion of Mr Bliss—“ That a tent be provided for the exhibits, from the Kaiapqi Woollen Factory, on the show ground.’* The meeting then adjourned.
