BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Thsfortnighlly meeting of the Education Board was held at the Normal School jesterday afternoon ; present—Messrs J. Icgfcir (Chairman), H. J. Tanered, H. E. Webb, A. Duncan, Bor 0. Eraser. A.letter wae received ifrom the Education Department, Wellington, intimating thbt them are no funds from which paymenks-of retiring allowances or compensation to teachers can be made. EXTENSION OE HOLIDAYS. A letter was read from Mr Watkins* suggesting that the holidays 'of the Normal School'should be extended for another week, owing; to certain alterations being made to the School buildings. Agreed to. ■ “Mr OWN HEW ZEALAND HOME.?' ; Mr John Grigg, of the Thames, wrote* enelosing a copy of his poem, “Mr O wav New Xml and Home.” He stated that he was having it printed with a hope that ih may prove acceptable throughout the Colony. He wished to know if' the Government; would grant' him one Sear’s salary, and pay his expenses to Bngmd, whore he could avail himself of an institution in which he cOuld obtain an asylum. He could not do so in the Colony. It was decided to submit the case to the Government. The.
