A COMPLAINT FROM FLAXTON.
TO THE EDITOR OE THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Sir, —As it may fairly be presumed to be the case that the railways are intended to be for the convenience of the public when adequately paid for, it would be as well to point out one serious inconvenience which we residents in this district suffer from, and we hope that it only requires the attention of the authorities to be drawn to it, to cause it to be remedied. It is that, on getting into the train at Flaxton, wo find that we cannot obtain a through ticket to our destination if we are going farther than Kaiapoi, and in consequence, to avoid the dread of the regulations and perhaps a troublesome action, we have to leave our seats at the Kaiapoi station, and hurry down to the office to procure a ticket to the Metropolis or elsewhere, and then, after hurrying back, we very frequently find that the comfortable seat we were compelled to leave, is occupied, and we have to take the alternative of hunting another, or, as is very often the case, standing on the platform of the carriage, the seats being all taken by Kaiapoi possengers. Now, Sir, this regulation has only been in force for a short time, and the inconvenience of such an arbitrary rule to ladies with children, has often been noticed, and it is quite time that it were altered, and passengers not madS to suffer for their misfortune in not residing near a bon& fide railway station.—l am, &c., Flaxton, October 1. RESIDENT.
