KAIAPOI BOROUGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this Committee was held at the school office on Wednesday last j present—Messrs Johnston* (Chairman), Youne, Pashby, Pamham, and Coup. Leave of absence was granted to Mr Bevell, who bad been called away on business. Letters were read from the Board of Education. 1. Enclosing prospectus and form of' application for space in the Juvenile Industrial Exhibition, Melbourne. 2. Stating that Mr J. Grant had been appointed assistant master St a salary of £l3O per annum. 3. Agreeing to purchase: Mr Hall’s section as a site for a master’s house. 4. Enclosing quarterly return for the quarter ending March 31, which showed the average daily attendance of the Eaiapoi school to: be 262. 5. Stating that the Board’s solicitor had been instructed to make out the usual conveyance of the site for a master’s house from Mr Hall to the Board. 6. Forwarding ten copies of the rules of the School Penny Banks. 7. Enclosing Miss Unwin’s agreement as a pupil teacher. From Mr Veysey,. asking to be re- - leased from his duties oh' April 4, instead of April 10. From the head master, enclosing usual monthly attendance return which was as follows:—Number on register ; Boys, 110; girls, 102; infants,ls6: total, 368. Average daily attendance: Boys,848; girls,7B7; infants, 115: total, 278:5. Showing a decrease in number on the roll of 7, and an increase in the average attendance of 3. Four applications for the situation of assistant-mistress wore received, and. Miss Elizabeth Monk was unanimously appointed. Resolved establishment of the School Fenny Bank be deferred for the present.” “ That the Chairman be authorised to make the necessary arrangements for.oltering the prices of some of the books used in'the school, as at present the Committee were losing by them.” “That application be made to the Board to advance half the current quarter incidental allowance, to enable the Committee to pay off the outstanding debts.” The meeting then adjourned.
