THE CARRIERS’ PICNIC.
0 i The Carriers of the City held their annual picnic yesterday. Shortly after nine o'clock, a procession of 28 vehicle?, gaily decorated with flowers and evergreens, and filled with many voung and joyous faces, marched through the city on their way to Sumner, which had been selected as the rendezvous for the excursionists. At the head of the long line, Toomer’s band con- I tributed a number of inspiring airs to the general gaiety; whilst one of the most _ conspicuous of the waggons bore aloft the motto “ Live and let live.” Judging by the general turn out there is plenty of lire among = the carriers. The little ones laughing over the 1 sides of the waggons, the women, the men, . and even the horses, may be said not only to . “live,” but to lire well. A brighter day could not have been chosen, and the as- . semblage presented a gay and lively scene upon the ground. AH were enjoying themselves heartily when we went to press.
