MR GRAHAM’S BENEFIT.
TO THB EDITOR OP THB LYTTELTON TIMES. Sib, —Surely some steps might be taken to prevent a recurrence of the gross insult which was offered to Mrs W. A. Toke on Wednesday night by some three or four halfdrunken occupants of the pit at the Theatre Royal, who, by'their infamous conduct, compelled that lady to retire from the stage in the middle or her pianoforte performance, greatly to the annoyance of better educated people who could understand and enjoy classical music. Of couise, it is utterly impossible to impress civility or good behaviour into the head of the Christchurch larrikin who usually (takes possession of the pit, but surely tho management, or the police, or the respectable people sitting < in the pit, might, amongst them, manage to keep some sort of order, and thus prevent further insults to amateur performers like that which was offered to Mrs W. A. Toke on Wednesday night.—l am, Ac., A CASUAL VISITOR.
