A epsoial meeting of the Dralnage Btord was held at 10.80 yesterday morning} priwbqt— Messrs Tancred (Chairman), Hannan, Duncan, andßois. • 1 The Chairman said he had called thS special meeting for the purpose, of considering tenders sent in for the storm-water drain In Antijua street. Why he had thought it desirabli to call the meeting 1 at such a short date before the holding of the' annual meeting was, that Mr Bell considered that a week or tety days’ delay would be very inconvenient just now, and a greater. delay might have taken mace after the expiration of the present Board before, the work was commenced than was thought by the Engineer to be desirable. Perhaps it would boos well to go info committee to consider the tenders which come in : '' !
Mr Dunoon said before the Board went into Committee he would like to refer shortly to an article that hod appeared in one of the papers, ip which it was stated that the Board; in carrying out the present dfaipage in the Berry read were departing from Mr Clark’s scheme. Thia.was altogether an error. Mr Harnan apologised for the absence of Mr Hall; who was engaged on his Road Board duties, and Mr Ddncan: for Mr Hobbs ; who wan engage! at the JSupremo Court. : - On the ipplication of the Engineer, the. Chairman was authorised to purchase a 4-horse powjr engine to drive another centrifugal pump at the Salisbury street works' in the event of the Engineer not being able to hire a suitalte one. h .L This conchded the business.
