[FUOX THB.PBBBfI ACWrOY.I Auckland, July 13. A schooner which baa arrived at the Bay of Islands from Bow Caledonia, reports, that a large French frigate has arrived there with 900 convicts. Mr Farnall has announced his candidature for City West, Messrs Qoldie, J. M. Clark, and Hurst are spoken of. The Auckland cricketers have telegraphed, agreeing to the new terms for the visit of the English eleven.
The barque Lady Franklin was floated off the bank at Saipan, but got aground again. She is expected to be successfully floated. Wbllinoton, July 13. In the Supremo Court—James Shennen, charged with committing rape upon his step* daughter, a child of tender years, was found guilty of attempted rape, and this morning sentenced to ten years’ penal servitude. The prisoner endeavoured to make out that the charge was the result of conspiracy between his wife and daughter, as he and the wife had not been living happily for some time. He said he had eleven children dependent upon him for bread, eight being under eleven years, and one was an infant.
Ddnbdin, July 13, A railway hand at Stirling, named John Young, was killed to-day by a truck passing over him.
The railway earnings, last month, were £9886.
The Post-office Savings’ Bank returns for the quarter show—Deposits, £43,405; withdrawals, £48,851.
