CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors was held at the Public Library, at 10 a.m..yesterday. Present—The Most Bev the Primate, Mr H. J. Tancred, Rev W. W. Willook, Mr Potts, Dr Turnbull, Mr John Inglis, Bev 0. Fraser, Mr H. B. Greaaon, Bev J. Bu'.ler, Rev W. J. Habeas, Mr W. J. W. Hamilton, and Mr Maude.

The choir was occupied by Mr Gresson. The Chairman said the first business of the meeting was the election of Governors to the vacant seats.

Mr Taaored moved—" That the Board proceed to the election of Governors to fill up vacancies caused by the resignation of Messrs Bolleaton, Knight, and Sir Oracroft Wilson; by the absence of Mr John Studholme from the Colony tor upwards of six mouths, and by the Hon C. 0. Bowen not having resided in the Province tor the past six months.” Mr Potts seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The following gentlemen were proposed : —His Honor Judge Johnston, hon J. B. A. Adand, M.A., hon G. Buckley, Q. L. Meliish, F. J. Garrick, Fereday, and J. N. Tosswiil* A ballot was taken, whioh resulted in the election of the following gentlemen His Honor Mr Justice Johnston, Mr J. N. Tosswill, Mr Meliish, and the hon J, B. Adand. The Bov 0. Fraser moved—“ That all vacancies occurring in the Board of Governors shall be declared at a meeting of the Board, and nominations to■ fill such vacancies shall, bo received at the following meeting of the Board.”

‘ The Most Rev the Primate seconded the motion, whioh was agreed to. The Bov W. J. Habeas moved—" That the three Professors be requested to prepare proposals for the constitution of a Professorial Board, and to submit their views upon the matter to the Board at an early date.”

The Rev J. Buller seconded the motion, which was Agreed to. . The Chairman stated that the. catalogues of the Reference Library would be issued in about a week, and the lists for the Circulating Library were being copied and nearly completed. Plans of the Public Library were laid upon the table, and the data for the receiving of tenders was fixed, for Sept. 24. On. the motion of Mr Hamilton, seconded by the Bev W. J. Habeas, the plans were approved, and the action of the Committee in reference thereto, affirmed. The Chairman stated, that the deputation appointed by the Board had waited upon the Government, and submitted * modified plan,

drawn by the architect, for the additions to the Museum, and the Government bad forwarded the following letter " Provincial Secretary's Office, “Sept, 11,1875. “Sir, —With reference to the interview between the Government and a deputation from the Board, regarding the alteration of the position of the addition to the Museom, I have the honour to state, that the Government will have no objection to accept the amended plan as forwarded by the architect, whereby the additional building is to be built on the Eastern end of the present Museum. I would suggest that, if possible, the. architect, should endeavour, by reducing the ornamentation on the inner or courtyard side of the new building, to obtain more accommodation, provided that the amount of work to be done by the contractor be not interfered with.

Habeas moved—" That the action of. the Committee be approved by the Board, and that the modified plans for the Museum be altd adopted.” Mr Hamilton seconded the which was agreed to. A letter was read from the Architect, asking for further commission for extra work incurred in consequence of the change of site. The letter Was referred to the Committee, with a recommendation for its favourable consideration.

The Chairman reported that the sum of £5Ol hod been forwarded to England far the purchase of chemical apparatus, and an amount had been retained for the purchase of apparatus in the Colony, end to defray insurance, freight, Ac. On the motion of the Bev C. Fraser, the Board approved the recommendation of the Committee respecting alterations in the subjects for examination. On the motion of the Bev 0. Fraser, the Board approved the recommendation from the Professors, that there should be two terms during the' year; the annual College examination to take place at the end of the second term. . It was resolved-that the scheme of examination forwarded by the Professors should be adopted by the Board of Governors. On the recommendation of the Professors, it was resolved that the matriculation examinations be held during the week preceding the commencement of the first term in each year. The Board then adjourned.
