Gratham M'Oabe, who committed suicide to-day by jumping off the cliff at the end of Hobson street, was formerly a reporter in Auckland, and on the Wellington Advertiser, He bad also appeared on the stage in various parts of New Zealand. He hod been in the Lunatic Asylum recently, for insanity induced by drink. In the fall, besides internal injuries he sustained a fracture of the thigh, and a compound fracture of the right elbow.- He was alive and sensible when found, but died two hours after.

Dtoedin, April 39. At the City Council last night it was decided to cut off the water in the mams from five in the morning till nine at night. This will stop all the mills dependant on reservoir pressure. The machines in use on the two morning and evening papers are driven by water.

The Auckland cricketers last night agreed to play a Sydney team, and co-operate with Otago and Canterbury in payment of the expense, but they desire further information. Letters from the South state that Canterbury and Otago are willing to contribute £l5O each.

The railway to Mercer is all but completed, and the contract to Ngaruawhia is being rapidly pushed on. . Mr George Daore is appointed Manager of the National Bank at Tauranga. One hundredweight of quarts from Chinemuri yielded four pennyweights of gold. Measles and typhoid fever are on the decline. A dozen patients were discharged from the Provincial Hospital, Mr Qratteh M'Cabe fell over a bank to-day, and broke his left arm and thigh. Ho is not likely to recover. He has been insane lately. At the half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New Zealand, a dividend at the rate of IQ per cent, per annum was declared, amounting to £30,000; a bonus of five shillings, equal to five per cent, per annum—£ls,ooo..... The balance carried to profit and loss was £16,974 11a Id. The report and balance sheet was adopted. :
