You are aware that I have been called to a seat in the Executive Government of the Colony at a time when the great question before the country is the necessity for a national, rather than a provincial policy. It would, in my opinion, he a mistake to initiate any revolutionary measures where they were not called for ; but it hag long been obvious that changes have become necessary in 'parts of the colony to secure good and economical government, as well as local administration of local affairs. I have been so long known to most of yon in the discharge of the venous duties which have been entrusted to me in this province, that 1 hope you will have confidence in my desire to do my duty to the district which I may have the honour to represent as well as to the colony.
