TEMUKA AND GERALDINE DISTRICTS, AT a Meeting held at Temuka, on Wednesday, the 4th inst., the Proprietors of Threshing Machines resolved to charge Sixpence per bushel for Threshing wheat and barley, and Fivepence for oats ; tailing to be charged for at same rate. The usual price charged for several years past has been Fourpence per bushel, all round ; tailings, half-price. This Notice is inserted, with a view of inducing Owners of Machines in Northern Canterbury to come and help, by competition, to put a stop to the intended imposition. THE LIBRARY formerly belonging to the Literary Institute will be RE-OPENED ON MONDAY, FEB. 9, Under the authority of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury College.

That the Library shall he open for the borrowing’ and retaming of books every day, except Sundays, Christmas Day, Good Friday, and General Holidays, from ten o’clock in the morning until five in the afternoon, and from six till nine in the evening. each subscriber shall pay in advance ten ' ilhngs XlitiC Cllwl DUUDWiMW ~f, » _ . shillings per annum, or two shillings and sixpence per quarter; and shall also he introduced by a governor or two subscribers. .... ■ 3 that each subscriber may have out of the Library one volume at a time, and no more -. except that all the volumes of a novel may be borrowed at the same time, and a separate volume of plates illustrating any work, may be taken out along with one volume of the text; but in these exceptional cases, the whole must be returned by the expiration of the time allowed for one volume. 4 That inclusive of the days of delivery and return, one week shall be allowed tor reading any periodical, two weeks for an octavo or any smaller volume or for a novel, and three weeks for a quarto or folio volume; and that if on the day when a book ought to be returned, the Library be not open, the next day shall be considered os the day f °s r That if a book be not returned at the due time, the subscriber shall pay a fine of one penny a day for the first week, and after taat time threepence a day for every day of his detaining the book; and if it be not returned within fourteen days, the subscriber may be required to pay its value, or the value of the work of which it forms part, m addition to the fines incurred; and m default of such payment the book or its value, or the value of the work of which it forms part, and the fines, may be recovered in a court of law. . 6 That if a book shall be written in or otherwise damaged, the subscriber in whose hands the book was at the time, may be required to pay the value of the book, or to replace it, at the discretion of the 6 rS ß itana subscriber shall have paid all fines and moneys due by him on account of books detained, lost, or damaged, he shall not be entitled to use the Circulating Library. , ... 1 8 That every subscriber, before being admitted to use the Library, shall sign an undertaking to observe and he hound by the rules of the Library. Members of the Literary Institute, whose snbscSons are paid «P to Dec. 31,1873, have been introduced by one of the governors in accordance with Buie 2, but will he required to give their signature as provided in Buie 8. Members of the Literary Institute whose subscriptions were paid in advance for any part of this current year may have the amounts standing to their credit returned to them, or applied as now subscriptions at the reduced rote.
