LITTLE RIVER ROAD BOARD.
TO THE BDITOE OF THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Sib, —A large sum of money has been placed at the disposal of the Little River Road Board. This Board is not distinguished for making a wise use of the money phased at its disposal and I wish to call attention to what appears to me to be a great waste of the sums they are now expending. The Valley road, leading from the Maori pah in the direction of Akaroa, which consists of soil only, is to be metalled. Shingle is being carted upon it, but of each load of what is called shingle a very large proportion consists of nothing else but soil. I believe that of each load carried the proportion of soil would be one-third, and in some cases very much more. If you would please to publish this note, the attention of the proper authorities will be aroused. The shingle should be screened, if a cleaner sample cannot be obtained. Your obedient servant, A RATEPAYER.
