Mails close at Chief Post-office for the following places, as under : For Dunedin direct per the s.s. Phoebe, on or about Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 11.45 am. For Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika, per the s.s. Waipara (for specially so addressed letters only), on .Friday, Sth inst., at 9.40 a.m. For Wellington and Napier, per the s.s. Baneatira, on or about Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. For Wellington per the s.s. Wanganui, on or about Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 4.30 p.m. For Dunedin, via intermediate ports, per s.s. Maori, on or about Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 4.30p.m. - Telegrams for Australia may be forwarded from the Telegraph Office to Hokitika till 10 a.m. this day (Wednesday), to catch mails closing there at 12 noon. On and after Wednesday, Nov. 6, mails for Oxford, West Oxford, Moeraki Downs and Fernside will close at Christchurch daily instead of three times weekly as formerly.
