It is proposed to establish this Association for the purpose of promoting and protecting the interests of the growers and dealers in grain by the erection, in a convenient part of the city, of a large and commodious building suitable for a Corn and Mercantile Exchange ; the making of rules and regulations to guide and govern the transactions of buyers and sellers; and to assist in the formation of a class of respectable and recognised brokers. Suitable stands, with sample compartments, writing desks, &c., will be supplied, and every facility given for the transaction of business. It is proposed that disputes between buyer and seller should be referred to a sub-com-mittee of the Directors for adjustment, whose decision shall be final: thus saving the expense of legal proceedings. The Exchange will be open on certain days to be determined by the Directors, and it is believed that it will form a place of meeting, not only for the sale and purchase of grain, but for the discussion of matters affecting the interests of the agricultural classes. The regulation of prices of the various kinds of grain sold in this market will determine the market values, and enable the grower, as well as the purchaser, to be able to rely upon the rates published by the authority of the Committee of the Com and Mercantile Exchange as strictly correct. It will effectually prevent the uncertainty and wide range of prices which have ruled for so long a period in this Market, to the detriment of both grower and purchaser. To purchasers of Grain for Export the Com Exchange will afford the means of enabling them to obtain the quantities required, on. any of the days of meeting without having, as is now frequently the case, to wait many weeks, after much trouble and expense in the collection of a few thousand bushels. Subscribers of £ per annum will be allowed all the privilege of the Corn Exchange, and admitted at all times during the day, when it is open for business of buying and selling grain. Subscribers of £ per annum will be entitled to the use of a stand, desk, &c., to be allocated as the Directors think fit. It is proposed to build a large, and handsome Building, with suitable galleries, platform, &c., which could be used, when not open for Corn Exchange operations, as a Hall, for public meetings, entertainments, and other purposes, and it is expected that the Revenue to be derived from these sources will yield a handsome return for the Capital invested. In recognition of the great advantage which the Establishment of a Cora Exchange is likely to confer upon the Agricultural Interest, the Provincial Council, has passed a grant of £SOO to this Association in aid of the proposed undertaking. Applications for shares, or for any other information, can be made to the Provisional Directors and the Honorary Secretary, at the Temporary Offices, Colombo Street North. FORM OF APPLICATIONS FOR SHARES. To the Chairman and Directors of the Canterbury Corn and Mercantile Exchange Association (Limited).
