PHILOSOPHICAL INSTITUTE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE LYTTELTON TIRES. Sib, —I learn from your paper of this morning that Mr Potts stated at the meeting of the Philosophical Institute that the printing of a report was delayed at Wellington owing to the proceedings of the Canterbury Institute not having been forwarded. I regret that illness prevented my being preMr Potts must be under some mistake. The proposal to print the proceedings piecemeal and apart from the Transactions, is an entirely new arrangement, I never heard of it, nor was asked to forward the proceedings, till I received a letter from Dr Hector, dated; the 14th Joly. • Strictly speaking, I might decline forwarding any papers till xi.ly authorised by the. Council of the Institute. But I should be sorry to stand upon mere points of form, and only too happy to assist Dr Hector in any ■ ,|,way in my power. Most people will imagine; nthe date 1 have given above to be a sufficient reason why the whole proceedings of the year have not yet been fully copied out and' forwarded. Tour obedient servant, CHARLES FRASER, Hon. Sec., Philosophical Institute, Canterbury. August 5.
