PUBLIC NOTICE. r i \HK existence of Small Poxiii the harbour L of Wellington and in Melbourne and at Panama renders it necessary that the provisions of the Vaccination Act, 1863, should be strictly complied with. The under-mentioned Medical Officers have been appointed, under the Act, for the several Vaccination Districts set opposite their names. A subsequent notice will give the places and days at which tbey will attend for the purposes of the Act : Vaccination District. The Surgeon for the time being to the Christchurch Hospital J. T. House, Esq. W. B. Tripe, Esq. Chas. Dudley, Esq., M.D.... Mathew Morris, Esq. Edward Butler, Esq. Daniel Watkins, Esq, ... The following are the principal provisions of the Act:— " Every child in the province must be vaccinated within six months after birth by one of the above-mentioned Medical Officers or other Medical Practitioner, and, on the eighth day following vaccination, it must be again taken to the operator, in order that the result of the vaccination may be ascertained, when, if the vaccination has been successful, a certificate to that effect will he given to the parent, and a duplicate will be forwarded to the Registrar of Births, who keeps a record of all such certificates.
"Any parent neglecting to have a child vaccinated, or to take it for subsequent inspection, according to the provisions of the Act, may be fined 40s. "The Medical Officers, appointed under the Act, may give notice to the parent of any unvaccinated child, above six months old, to have the child vaccinated, and if the parent, after two mdn'ths, has neglected to! obey the order, a penalty of 403 may be enforced."
