ADDITIONAL EUROPEAN TELEGRAMS.
The following Indo-European telegrams appear in the Melbourne Herald of Oct. 14 London, Sept. 10. & ihe Imperial Government have decided to send an expedition to Abyssinia, to procure the release of Messrs Cameron (British Consul), Dr Beke, Messrs Eossain, Kelk, and other lHuropeans and Americans, held prisoners by the Emperor Theodoras. H.M.S. Dryad aud Spiteful have been ordered to proceed to Bombay from Bio de Janiero. Sir Eobert J. M. Napier has been appointed to command the expedition, and Captain btavely next in authority. Colonel Mereweather will commaud the cavalry employed. A number of transports have been chartered to start from England at once, so as to arrive at Bombay by November. The Government have also dispatched officers to various places, to purchase mules and camels requisite for the expedition. It is probable that Massowah, in the Eed j Sea, will be the rendezvous and base of the British operations. The India Office has directed arrangements to be made with the Imperial Exchequer, to defray the expenses of the campaign. The Moniteur regards Napoleon's interview with the other potentates at Salzburg as a new guarantee of peace. The hostilities in Crete have been suspended. The Spanish insurrection has been put an end to. A circular has been issued by the King of Prussia, communicating pacific assurances to both Prance and Austria. Garibaldi, in aspeeeh at Geneva, said that lie would go to Rome. Consols are quoted at 90i
Sept. 14. The German Parliament has been opened. The King's address was confined to matters concerning the internal policy of the kingdom. Garibaldi has left Geneva for Borne, The Emperor Napoleon has gone on a visit to Berlin. An amnesty has been granted to the Cretan insurgents, on condition of their surrendering their arms or emigrating. The Fenian movement has created serious riots in Manchester. The mob attacked the policemen, and rescued two prisoners. In the emeute two persons were killed, and several injured.
Sept. 20. Sir George Ferguson Bowen, at present Governor of Queensland, has been appointed to succeed Sir George Grey in the government of New Zealand.
