We . have ■no talent for recrimination, j the slender; gains of Government printing has prompted the proprietors of' this paper . to question Mr FitzGerald's propriety in accepting a public contract and a high judicial office together, wo shall not defend ourselves from the charge, ; And if it argues i that Mr FitzGerald's course of action is defensible because there have been before now Government printers who held at the same time offices of a very different kind from his, we shall not take the trouble to question the logic of the argument, But we will say again that it would he satisfactory tci know that one who holds the position of an independent judge in the financial affairs of the colony has ceased to be dependent either upon the Government as a contractor or upon the public as a journalist. ■ And wo will add that we expected Mr FitzGerald himself to exhibit a more exalted sense of public duty than is shewn by pleading that what he has done the law. does not expressly forbid. ,
