The tenor of recent advices from California arid England has induced a marked improvement in the market for breadstuffs, and led to several large transactions, amongst which havo been the sales of nearly all the Californian* wheat and flour in: first hands. ,The cargoes of the Sunshine and Spirit of the Seas, and part of that ex Bertha havo been ;purchased by one firm, who now hold them: for a rise. The late sales of wheat have been at 4s 8d to 4 S 9d net cash, and none can bo now had under 6s. ; Chilian wheat is also firmer, and small 'lots, command 4s od. For Adelaide wheat prices are nominal, as there is at present none in the market,;' 'The .'cargo;.of Californian' wheat .and' flour ox Nation's Hope is being stored. by the importers, who decline selling under what it cost to land here. • The, Crown's cargo is still in the market. The Veloce,. from Bourbon, Nil Desperaridum, and Australia's cargoes are . not yet. in the fmarket, and. will .probably be stored for the. present. Wo have had ■- no arrivals . from China during the month, and only a limited amount of.business has been done in teas; prices are without alteration. Jlaoila cheroot* and Havannah shaped are offering more freely, and obtainable at7os/ Havarinahs nominal. Swiss are almost unsaleable.
