THE OCCUPATION OF PRE-EMPTIVE RIGHTS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE LTTTELTON TIMES. Sir.—Mr.Hillyard, one of the gentlemen to whom I referred yesterday evening, as cultivating pre-emptive right land, has called upon me this morning, ami informed me, that before he commenced cultivation lie had purchased the land. I think it due to Mr. Hillyard, at once to admit the inaccuracy of ray information in regard to his case; but I wish it to bo understood, that I was merely referring to such cases as illustrative of a mischief incident to the system, and not by way of charging the gentlemen in question witli improperly using the Crown lands. Yours, &C., W. T. L. TRAVERS. Christchurch, April 17,1866.
