Gentlemen, —I have much pleasure in assenting to your wishes that I should allow myself to be placed in nomination for a seat in the next Provincial Council for the Riccarton district. Being one of the oldest settlers in the province, and having a large stake in the Riccarton district, will be in itself a guarantee that I shall do all in my power to promote the advancement of the district as well as the province at large. I shall do myself the pleasure of calling on the electors to explain my views on provincial polititics, and shall from time to time call 1 meetings if I find it desirable. February 19, 1866. 694 TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH. p ENTLEMEN,—As several Candidates VX are presenting themselves for your suffrages at the approaching dissolution of the Provincial Council, I have the honour to j acquaint you that I purpose offering myself t for re-election as one of your representatives. I have bad the honour to hold a seat in the Council since its enlargement in 1855, and r may, without much egotism, ask you to ! I judge of my qualifications- for the trust I s seek at your hands by my past career. Op- ' portunities will doubtless be afforded to the B Candidates to explain their sentiments more t fully than is usual in an address of this nature when I shall have the pleasure of 8 meeting you. I I shall endeavour to call upon you individually, if possible; but, as this is necessarily a work of time, and time is our most valuable commodity, I trust you will at least do me the favour to retain in your minds a IS recollection of the past as an inducement to ;s withhold the pledge of your votes to my dis- '• advantage. ir |I have the honour to be, Gentlemen, Your most obedient servant, J. OLLIVTER. >9 324 c
