Wales ... 5750 0 0 ... 7JB 15 0 Other persons ... 319 15 0 ... 39 19 5 16,569 15 0 2071 4 5 The West Coast Times of March 3rd, reports : The total export of gold from the port of Hokitika during the month of February wa5 —42,391 ozß. 15 dwts., of the value of £170,267. The total amount of export duty made was £5298 ]9s sd. Of the total quantity exported, 5393 ozs. 15 dwts. were shipped for Melbourne, 30,000 ozs. for Sydney, and 7000 ozs. for Manukau, for direct shipment to England from that port. These figures are exelusive of gold cleared at the port of Greymouth. The total import duties received at the Hokitika Custom House during the month amounted to £6,638 2s lOd. During the past week business has assumed a more lively aspect, and although the shipments to Okarita and Greymouth have been of a more limited character than the preceding week, still a fair amount of business has been done, and at rates still showing an upward tendency. The auction sales have been well attended, the goods offered realising generally high prices. The Grey River Argus, of the same date reports:—

The downward tendency in almost all articles of consumption has been maintained during tho week, induced by the largo shipments which continue to arrive in the market. Chilian flour has been sold at £22 10s; Adelaide is in demand at £34. Hams and bacon are extremely scarce and hardly procurable at 2s 2d per lb; salmon, 21s; tea, good medium, £5 10s; tobacco is in good supply, no alteration in price—Blackbird is worth ss, Little Sunshade, 4s. Oats are difficult to sell at 6s; chaff, £27 per ton. Several largish parcels have been bought in this market for Hokitika.
