New Advertisements. TG THE ELECTORS OF THE AVON " DISTRICT. C. ENTLEMEN,—I learn that a slip of * printed paper, headed "Mr. Crosbie Ward's Rattings," without either signature or printer's name, has been circulated in many parts of your district, and a copy has reached my hands. I suppose this is an underhand attempt to influence the coming election. As I am ready to give to all attacks upon me, if publicly and fairly made, a reply of the i same kind, I forbear to answer slanders published anonymously, especially as I am certain they 'will not succeed in influencing your opinions. I inay eay, however, that the paper rc ferrcd to contains very little truth. ] I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, CROSBIE WARD. Christcliurch, Jan. 13, 1866. CANTERBURY RACES. Price : £1 Is. 9532 QANTERBURY RACES. METROPOLITAN MEETING, TUESDAY, 16th JANUARY. WEDNESDAY, 17TH JANUARY. THURSDAY, 18th JANUARY. 9531 TO WHEAT GROWERS. THE undersigned is prepared to take orders for SEED WHEAT Up to the 15th of February, at the following prices:— Belle-vue Talavera Wheat, 10s per bashel. Champion Red Straw White Wheat, 10s per bushel. Hallett's Pedigree Wheat, 20s per bushel. The above have been grown from imported seed, with an especial view to provide a change of seed for next season. The Talavera. Wheat is exceedingly valuable for late sowing. It may be sown with safety in October and November. The Champion Wheat should be sown from June to August. It has never been grown here before this season, and the present crop surpasses anything that has ever been seen in the province. It is found that 3 pecks of the Pedigree Wheat is quite sufficient seed for an acre ; and at the above price, it is the cheapest seed that can be sown ; but it must be put in early, April and May being the best months. All those who take an interest in wheatgrowing are invited to inspect the growing crops which are now ripening, are perfectly clean, and are amongst the heaviest ever grown in Canterbury, being estimated by competent judges to yield from 60 to 80 bushels per acre, and are a proof that the deficient crops of late years are caused by worn-out seed.
