The following is the Gaol return for the month ending August 31: —Christchurch Gaol—Males : for trial at the Supreme Court,!; hard labour, JO; total males, 11. Females : for trial at the Supreme Court, 1 ; hard labour, 7. — Imprisonment : total females, 9 ; total in gaol, 20. Lj'ttelton Gaol—Males : for trial at the Supreme Court, 20 ; hard labour, 57 ; imprisonment, 4; debtors, 24 ; total males, 105. During the month, 30 persons, all of them males, were discharged.
