Mr. Harman stated that he found him lying in & state of intoxication in a ditch, near the Scotch manse. Witness fearing that he would be drowned, took him home with the assistance of another and laid the present information against him. The prisoner thanked Mr. Earman for his kind attention to him. Ward So Beeves., Oh Thursday last I received a cheque and a signed paper from Constable Hams, in the presence of the inspector. I have carefully examined the signatures, and I find that a great similarity exists between them, making allowances for the differences of paper and probably of the pens used. I believe that both tne writings are in the same handwriting; but it is difficult to give a positive opinion on such a subject. The depositions were read over, and the prisoner was asked, w the usual form, if he had any statement to makn. He replied that he could not justify himself until he had found the party who gave him the cheque, lie was committed for trial at the next sessions of the Supreme Court.
