NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that at a meeting of the Road Board of the said district, duly held on the third day of June, at Northport, it was resolved to adopt a rate of Sixpence in the Pound, upon the Assessment of the said District, and all persons whose names appear in the Assessment for such District for the current year are hereby required, within fourteen days after the publication thereof, to pay the amount of such rate, according to the sum at which they appear to be assessed in filicn Assessment, to Mr. E. TO CONTRACTING ENGINEERS AND OTHERS. THE Lyttelton Municipal Council offers a premium of One Hundred Pounds (£100) for the best set of Plans, Specifications, and Working Details for a scheme for supplying, at and within a height of 150 feet above High Water Mark, the Town of Lyttelton with Water, either from the Tunnel Springs or •therwise. The plans, &c., with estimate of the costs of the various particulars (without the author's name, but with a motto and sealed letter), to be delivered free of expense on or before the 31st July, at the office of the undersigned, of whom further particulars, and a plan of the town may be obtained. The Engineer or other person whose scheme may be accepted, must guarantee the practicability of the same, and will be held bound to undertake or supervise the works according to his plans and estimate» if required by the Council to do so; but the Counoil does not pledge itself to employ the Engineer or other person whose plans may be accepted.
